About Me
Thank you for taking the time to stop by my page! This year will be my sixth at Lawsonville and I mean it when I say there's no better place to be! I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2012 with a BS in Elementary Education. Go Mountaineers! I am currently taking classes through Duke University to obtain my AIG Licensure. Go Blue Devils! I live in Madison with my wife, Brittany, and our sweet furbaby, Olive. Brittany teaches fifth grade in Rockingham County.
I teach mathematics and guided reading to both fourth and fifth grades. Ask any former student of mine and they will tell you that math was the subject I struggled with the most when I was a student. Because of my struggles, I made a commitment at Appalachian State to make sure my future students would understand math better than I ever did. Now, the subject I had the most difficulty with is my favorite subject to teach. Imagine that! I haven't forgotten those fears I had as a young student. Nothing excites me more as a teacher than turning the fears of my students into confidence and proving that mathematics is fun! I am also one of the coaches for the Battle of The Books team. If you enjoy great stories like I do, Battle of the Books just might interest you!
I truly love being in the classroom. Connecting with students and watching them grow individually is, to me, the greatest possible reward. Communication is vital to student growth. When teachers, parents, and students are on the same page and expectations are clear to all, meaningful learning will take place. You send the best of you (your child) to school every day and I value the trust you place in me while they are in my classroom. Every child learns at their own pace and in their own way. It is my goal to provide them with valuable learning experiences and challenge them to be the absolute best learner they can be! I look forward to doing anything I can to make this the best year possible for your child!
